Dauphin Island: Honesty, Integrity, Transparency
Dauphin Island, August 27, 2012 – Virginia Shanahan announced her support today for the Town of Dauphin Island’s efforts to prepare for Hurricane Isaac. Shanahan is in a heated mayoral contest with incumbent Jeff Collier.
“As we prepare for Isaac’s potential landfall on the northern Gulf Coast”, Shanahan said “we need to put our political differences on the back burner. Now is the time to focus on our number one concern. That is the safety and well-being of our residents and their properties.”
Shanahan said the Dauphin Island community needs to come together to protect and care for each other. She said “there will be plenty of time following the hurricane to resume her vigorous campaign to become Dauphin Island’s next mayor.”
In the meantime, Shanahan expressed her “support for whatever decision our Town Council makes on Monday regarding Tuesday’s planned election. If the Council believes it is in the overall best interest of our community to reschedule the election to a future date, I will stand behind them. I also pledge to help the Town in the clean-up efforts following the hurricane’s passage. I ask all of our residents to work with our community leaders to protect and secure our island.”
