Dauphin Island: Honesty, Integrity, Transparency
Virginia was born and raised in Louisiana. She and her family have resided on Dauphin Island for 7 years. They moved to the Island in 2005 in connection with her husband Neil’s job. Neil serves as Director of HMS Global Maritime’s Gulf Coast Operations, in which he manages the company’s Alabama ferry system, including the two ferries connecting Dauphin Island with Fort Morgan.
Virginia and Neil have three children. Their daughter, Alanna, is a senior at the University of South Alabama, and their twin 10-year old sons, Neil and James, are in the 4th grade at Dauphin Island Elementary School, where they have been students since Kindergarten.
Virginia believes that community involvement is important and as Mayor she will provide opportunities and encourage all who are able to do so to participate. In that regard, she served as a volunteer with the Red Cross, worked with a domestic violence shelter, and is a member of the Dauphin Island Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization. She was also an Emergency Medical Technician.
Neil is active in the local Cub Scouts Pack on the Island, the Dauphin Island Chamber of Commerce, and the volunteer fire department. Virginia assists Neil in the various functions that these organizations undertake.
Able to handle a demanding workload, Virginia has been a full-time stay at home mother during her sons early years while furthering her education. She completes her degree in Business Forensics this year. This field of study deals with the prevention, detection, and investigation of fraud. Virginia’s decision to go into this field of study is directly related to her deeply held core beliefs in honesty, integrity, and transparency. These beliefs will serve as the pillars of her administration.
Virginia is employed with HMS Global Maritime as an internal auditor. She is responsible for ensuring the reliability and adequacy of internal controls and accounting systems; specifically, review and verification of records, compliance with standards, policies and procedures, recommending changes and establishing techniques to discover and prevent fraud. Virginia is an Associate Member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
